Setting: A family room. While Kathy, a pre-teen is watching t'v., Mom is reading a book in a chair. Joan, an older teen sits to the far left or right side, observing. When she speaks, she addresses the audience, while the other characters "freeze."

(Brad, a 13-14 year old enters, plops down on the couch next to Kathy and snatches the remote control, turning the channel on the t'v.)

Kathy: Hey, I was watching that!

Brad: Not anymore.

Kathy: Turn it back!

Brad: No way!

Kathy: (reaching for the remote, as Brad holds it away from her) Give me that!

Brad: No!

Kathy: (still trying to get the remote) I was watching that movie, now turn it back!

Brad: No! I want to watch monster trucks.

Kathy: But I was here first.

Brad: I was here second. So what?

Kathy: Turn it back!

Brad: No.

Mom: (looking up from her book) I'm trying to read. Will you two pipe down?

Kathy: Mom, I was here first. Tell Brad to turn my movie back on.

Mom: Kathy, you've been watching t'v. for an hour and a half. Why don't you go do something else for awhile? (back to her book)

Brad: (mockingly to his sister) Yeah, go do something else.

Kathy: (angrily to her brother) I don't want to do anything else! I want to see the end of this movie.

Brad: It looks like a dumb movie anyway. I don't think you're going to be missing too much.

Mom: (not looking up from her book) I don't know how you can watch those sappy pre-teen movies Kathy. They're so unrealistic.

Kathy: They are not!

Brad: Right, how many teenage guys do you know who sit around writing poetry in a flower garden they planted for their girlfriend? Come on!

Kathy: Shut up Brad!

Brad: (pushing her on the arm) No, you shut up!

(Mom looks up)

Kathy: (punching him in the side) You're such a durf wad Brad!

Mom: Kathy that's enough! Go to your room!

Kathy: But he started it!

Mom: And I'm finishing it. Now, go!

Kathy: It's not fair! You always take his side.
