Summary:

This skit is a take-off of the "Flower Power Peace Movement" of the 60's & 70's, and uses flowers as actual characters to symbolize our need for God's peace, love, healing and protection in our lives today.

The skit opens in Garden Paradise, home of the Master Gardener, caretaker of all flowers.  Blue Bonnet and Daisy have decided to launch a protest against all florist shops, holding up signs that read "We shall not wilt!" and "Flowers were meant to grow free!" They want to send messages to the florists and their supporters, letting them know they are tired of seeing innocent flowers sent to their deaths.  Says Blue Bonnet, "How many more flowers have to shrivel up and die as part of these "arrangements"?  She wants to put an end to the senseless killings.  Meanwhile, AWOL flowers Black Eyed Susan, Baby's Breath and Wall Flower escape to the Garden Paradise, in search of the Master Gardener, if he even exists. They are seeking healing and shelter from the flower shops they've escaped from.  They long to live in a meadow where they can be free but question whether or not such a thing is possible for wildflowers like them. It is up to Blue Bonnet and Daisy to convince them of the love, peace and harmony the Master Gardener can bring into their lives.

Using song bits, and phrases & references from the 70's, as well as combining both humor and drama, this skit will resonate with you in one way or another.  Perhaps you're a fan of flowers or the 70's, or just need to be reminded of God's love and peace.  In any case, this skit will make you think, smile and thank God for his involvement in your life.

Setting: A garden of flowers.

As the scene opens, Blue Bonnet enters with a clipboard and pen, looking over lists and making checkmarks. Five chairs sit center stage.

Blue:

(calls out) Daisy? (looking around) Daisy?  (sighs) Where is that girl?

Grasping her long, flowing skirt with both hands, Daisy "swishes" it around as she enters, "twirling" around the stage, very happy and content

Daisy:

(as she twirls around the stage, she "sings" to herself) La la la la la la...

Blue:

There you are, Daisy.  I've been looking for you.

Daisy:

(twirls her way next to Blue, she tilts her head and smiles at her) Good morning Blue Bonnet.  The Earth says hello.

Blue:

(looks at Daisy curiously) I see you're feeling much better.

Daisy:

I'm feeling groovy! The Master Gardener fed us Sure Gro for breakfast this morning.

Blue:

(smiling) That would explain it-it's all those vitamins and minerals kicking in. (looking Daisy over) Your stem and leaves look stronger and your color is returning too.

Daisy:

(twirls in a circle happily) I love how soft and luxurious my petals feel! Today, I could handle any storm that crossed my way!

Blue:

Welcome to Garden Paradise: the only place to find true peace and tranquility.

Daisy:

I never knew flowers could flourish this much.

Blue:

It's because of the Master Gardener's touch.  He definitely has a green thumb.

Daisy:

I wish more people could experience this kind of freedom. We've got to get the word out.

Blue:

That's the goal.

Daisy:

But how can we spread the word about the Flower Power Peace Movement more quickly? We've got to reach more plants, and soon, because thousands of innocent flowers are wilting and dying every day!

Blue:

Actually, that's why I was looking for you.  What do you think about staging protests in front of the florist shops all across the country?

Daisy:

(smiles) I like it.  We could hold up signs that say "We shall not wilt!" and "Flowers were meant to grow free!"

Blue:

"More dirt, less vases!"

Daisy:

I love it!

Blue:

I'm glad.  I want to get started on this right away.  We've got to send the message to these florists and their supporters that we're not going to take it anymore-we're tired of seeing innocent flowers snatched out of the soil, only to be dumped in glorified refrigerators, where they wait to be butchered.

Daisy:

And I hate all the cover ups and lies. "You'll be part of a floral arrangement," they say. They make it sound so good, and the flowers buy into it, not realizing they're being sent to their deaths.

Blue:

(shaking her head) How many more flowers have to shrivel up and die as part of these "arrangements"?   How many have to end up in the trash can or be crushed in between books and love letters?

Daisy:

Hopefully, we can put a stop to these senseless killings.

Optional:  Daisy and Blue Bonnet get very serious and face the audience, side by side.  They sing the first stanza to "Blowing in the Wind" by Peter, Paul & Mary

"How many years must a mountain exist, before it is washed to the sea
How many years can some flowers (instead of "people") exist, before they're allowed to be free
How many times can a flower (instead of "man") turn his head, and pretend that he just doesn't see
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind
The answer is blowing in the wind."

Daisy:

That's why you started the Flower Power Peace Movement isn't it?  To make every patch of land a Garden Paradise, under the care of the Master Gardener?   Where all flowers, not just wildflowers, can live in peace, love, and harmony?

Blue:

Yes.

Daisy:

Then I say, "Live and let live!"

Blue:

Right on!

Baby's Breath enters

Baby:

Excuse me, is this Garden Paradise?

Blue:

Yes, it is.

Baby:

The Garden Paradise where all flowers are welcome and are encouraged to live in peace, love and harmony with the Master Gardener?

Daisy:

That's the one.

Baby:

Hallelujah!  We made it! (falls to the floor and kisses it)

Blue:

Did you say "we"?

Baby:

That's right. (gets up quickly) Me and my friends.  Come on guys. (motions to the side) Come on in. This is the place!

Wall Flower and Black Eyed Susan enter timidly, barely on stage, hesitant

Baby:

(to Blue and Daisy) You have to excuse them but they're a little hesitant.  We've all been through a lot.

Blue:

(to Wall Flower and Susan) You're safe here.  No one will hurt you, I promise.

Daisy:

You're among friends.

Wall Flower and Susan come closer and stand near Baby.  Susan walks with a limp.

Daisy:

I'm Daisy.  And this is Blue Bonnet.

Baby:

I'm Baby's Breath, but you can call me Baby.

Blue:

It's nice to meet you, Baby.

Baby:

And this here is Wall Flower.

Wall Flower:

(raises her hand) Hi.

Baby:

And Black Eyed Susan.

Sue:

My friends call me Sue.

Blue:

It's good to meet both of you.  It looks like you've all had quite a journey, so why don't we take a seat and you can rest a bit while we get to know each other.

Baby:

Sounds good to me.

They all take a seat

Daisy:

If you don't mind my asking, how did you find us?

Baby:

Are you kidding? The Flower Power Movement is legendary where we come from!

Wall Flower:

(raises her arm in the air and shouts) "Flower Power!"

Blue:

And where do you come from?

Sue:

We each escaped from flower shops just north of here.

Daisy:

Oh no!

Baby:

Afraid so.  For one reason or another we all enlisted.

Daisy:

Why would you want to enlist?

Baby:

We were misled.

Wall Flower:

I thought it would lead to a better life.

Sue:

The florist made it sound so glamorous, and anything was better than where I came from.  Or so I thought.

Wall Flower:

I thought I was going die there.

Sue:

Almost did a couple of times.  (rubs her leg tenderly)

Blue:

It sounds like a horrible ordeal.

Baby:

It was.  I never should have left the garden back home.

Blue:

What happened?

Baby:

I guess it started when I was just a young blossom. I was jealous of all the other flowers who lived on acres of dark, rich soil.  We had a modest few rows to call home and it could be pretty crowded at times.  I barely had enough room to stretch my roots.

Blue:

So you left home in search of bigger and better things?

Baby:

How'd you know?

Blue:

Happens all the time.

Daisy:

(shaking her head) Such a shame.

Baby:

Yeah, if I only knew then what I know now.
