 The Real Deal

Characters: Tess (a girl), Jack (a boy) & Super Dude

Props: Small action figure

(Skit opens with Jack playing with his action figure)

Jack: Captain Courage, to the rescue!

Tess: (enters) Hi Jack. What are you doing?

Jack: Oh, hi Tess. I was just playing with my Captain Courage action figure.

Tess: He looks pretty cool.

Jack: Yeah, I was pretending Captain Courage was helping a dog find his way back home.

Tess: That sounds fun. Can I play too?

Jack: Sure.

Tess: What kinds of things can Captain Courage do?

Jack: His arms and legs move and he used to be able to say neat things like "Captain Courage to the rescue!" and "Never fear, Captain Courage is here!" but the batteries don’t work anymore. Now I just use my own pretend voice. You want to try?

Tess: Okay. (in a deep, masculine voice) "Never fear, Captain Courage is here!"

Jack: Hey, you’re pretty good at that.

Tess: Thanks. Can he do anything else?

Jack: I pretend he can fly sometimes. He doesn’t have a cape, but I tie a napkin around his neck and pretend he can fly with that.

Tess: He reminds me a little bit of Super Dude.

Jack: Super who?

Tess: Super Dude. You know, the super hero with super strength, super hearing, super vision and super speed? He flies around helping people.

Jack: Oh yeah, I’ve heard of him. He’s okay I guess, but I like Captain Courage better.

Tess: Why? Super Dude has way more powers!

Jack: He can’t even fly right—he crashes every time he lands!

Tess: (defensive) He’s working on that! Nobody’s perfect, you know.

Jack. What are you getting so upset about? It’s not like he’s real or anything.

Tess: You take that back! Super Dude is too real!
